Ryan McDonagh Traded to Tampa Bay Lightning
Former Predator Signs 7-Year, $47.25 Million Deal
Lightning Acquire Defenseman and Fourth-Round Pick
In a major move ahead of the NHL trade deadline, the Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Ryan McDonagh from the Nashville Predators. The Lightning sent a 2024 fourth-round pick to the Predators in exchange for McDonagh.
McDonagh, 33, is a veteran defenseman who has played over 800 NHL games. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Lightning (2020, 2021) and was traded to the Predators in the offseason.
The Lightning are hoping that McDonagh can provide some stability to their blue line, which has struggled with injuries this season. McDonagh is a physical presence who can play both ends of the ice.
McDonagh has signed a seven-year, $47.25 million contract extension with the Lightning. The deal will keep him in Tampa Bay through the 2029-30 season.
