German Record Holder Makes History in Paris

24-Year-Old Earns First German Medal in Event Since 1996

Leo Neugebauer, the 24-year-old German multi-event track and field athlete, has secured a silver medal in the decathlon at the Paris Olympics. The German record holder collected his medal at the Stade de France late on Sunday evening.

Neugebauer's victory marks a historic moment for German decathlon. He is the first German to win an Olympic decathlon medal since Frank Busemann in 1996.

Neugebauer's journey to Olympic glory began in 2016, when he gained national attention for his talents by finishing second in the German Junior Athletics Championship. His performances have continued to improve since then, and he has established himself as one of the world's leading decathletes.

In 2022, Neugebauer set a German record with a score of 8961 points to claim his second consecutive NCAA title while competing for the University of Texas.
