An IndiGo flight bound for Hyderabad from Jabalpur was diverted to Nagpur on Monday, January 16, 2023, following a bomb threat.
The Airbus A320 aircraft, carrying 136 passengers and a crew of six, took off from Jabalpur Airport at 11:15 am and was scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad at 12:45 pm. However, it received a bomb threat mid-air, prompting the pilot to divert the plane to Nagpur's Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.
Quick Response by Authorities and Safe Landing
Upon receiving the threat, the pilot immediately notified the Air Traffic Control (ATC), which in turn alerted the security agencies at Nagpur Airport. The airport's emergency response team was activated, and the plane was escorted by fighter jets as a precautionary measure.
The flight landed safely in Nagpur at around 12:30 pm, where passengers were deboarded and the aircraft was thoroughly searched by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). No explosives were found.
Investigation Underway
The local police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have launched an investigation into the incident. The passenger who made the threat is yet to be identified, and the motive behind the hoax call remains unknown.
